HUD released the FY 2022 Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Data Standards, including the HMIS Dictionary tables in PDF format and the HMIS Data Standards Manual in PDF and HTML formats for Project Descriptor, Universal, Common, Federal Partner, and Metadata Elements. This also includes the standard CSV Schema for FY 2022 to align with HMIS Data Standards.
Timing
The FY 2022 HMIS Data Standards provide the requirements for the programming and use of all HMIS and comparable database systems, effective October 1, 2021. HMIS software must be able to collect all the data elements defined within these HMIS Data Standards, support the system logic, including dependencies, identified in the document, and ensure that the data collection and the visibility of data elements are appropriate to the project type and federal funding source for any given project by this date.
WellSky Engineers are busily prepping Community Services for the FY2022 Data Dictionary Changes release version. Community Services 5.14.0 will be available as a Major Upgrade on September 30, 2021. This release version will include many changes including:
• New data elements
• Picklist changes
• Updated/Renamed FY2022 Assessments
• Data Mapping per HUD FY2022 mapping instructions

New User Training
Training for new users will continue with minor updates being added at the start of the training. After completing the updates in ServicePoint, HMIS will be updating the training modules to incorporate the screenshots and workflows. Since WellSky cannot update until September 30th, HMIS will be unable to update the training completely until post “go live”.
SAGE APR and CAPERs
HUD plans several changes in Sage in addition to the implementation of the FY2022 Data Dictionary Updates. Beginning October 1, 2021, Sage will accept the FY2022 Coordinated Entry for annual submissions. Additionally, beginning October 1, 2021 Sage will only accept the FY2022 versions of the ESG CAPER and CoC APR.
Our vendor recommends that communities with ESG CAPER/CoC APR deadlines near the end of September and beginning of October submit their reports into Sage by September 30th to avoid any unnecessary delays caused by transitions to the FY2022 versions of the report and changes in Sage. They will release updated FY2022 ESG CAPER and CoC APR reports as close to the October 1, 2021 change as possible.
Additional Information
This release of the FY 2022 HMIS Data Standards supersedes previously released 2020 HMIS Data Standards as of October 1, 2021. Relevant documents are attached below.
