    2026 Housing Inventory Count Overview & Timeline

    2026 Housing Inventory Count (HIC) Survey Link  <- Link will be available on 2/09/2026

     

    For the 2026 Housing Inventory Count (HIC), we will continue to use the survey process to update project data in HMIS starting February 9th. The HIC process will run from February 9th - February 20th. All projects must complete the HIC survey during this period.  Projects will proceed along different paths based on their project type and whether the project is in HMIS.

    Participating Projects: 

    • Emergency Shelter (ES)
      • Night by Night 
      • Entry / Exit
    • Transitional Housing (TH)
    • Safe Haven (SH)
    • Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH)
    • Rapid Re-Housing (RRH)
    • Other Permanent Housing (OPH)
      • Permanent Housing – Housing with Services (no disability required)
      • Permanent Housing – Housing Only

    Projects that do not use HMIS: 

    Projects that do not regularly enter data into HMIS (non-participating) will need to complete a survey to report occupancy and vacancy on the night of the Point in Time Count ( January 22nd), similar to recent years. 

    Keep in mind that a separate HIC survey must be completed for all required project at your agency.

    February 4, 2026 Webinar Reminder - An email will be sent to providers as a reminder of the HIC 2026 webinar (2/9/26). 
    February 9, 2026 HIC 2026 Overview Webinar  
    February 9, 2026 HIC Survey Opens - Emergency Shelter - Entry-Exit, Emergency Shelter - Night-by-Night, Transitional Housing (TH), Safe Haven (SH), Permanent Housing, and Non-Participating projects will start completing their HIC survey.
    February 20, 2026

    All providers, both participating and non-participating, must submit their occupancy and/or vacancy data surveys to HMIS.

    The survey will close at the end of the day.
